Our keynote speaker this year is Ivory Hecker. She owns Ivory Media LLC (ivoryhecker.com), an independent journalism company free from corporate overlords and untethered from special interests. The company was founded in August, 2021 with the primary goal of providing citizens who value their individual liberty with the information they need to remain free and self-governing.
Ivory realized the need for independent journalism while witnessing the corruption inside her own company FOX Corp over the course of 2020 and 2021. While working as a reporter and fill-in anchor, she watched the corporation repeatedly put its special interests ahead of the viewers’ interests and the truth. She called out the corruption live on air on June 14, 2021. The video went viral around the globe. People reached out from countless parts of the world, expressing their own concerns about propaganda in the media. Thousands donated to Ivory, giving the opportunity to launch her own company.
Prior to all this, Ivory spent nearly four years as a full time hard news reporter and fill-in anchor at the Murdoch-owned FOX local station in Houston—FOX 26. Ivory covered some of the biggest stories, from presidential visits by Biden, Trump, Obama, Bush, Clinton and Carter, to the death and funeral of President George H.W. Bush in his home town. She covered the massive march and funeral of George Floyd, two World Series’ involving the Astros, the Hurricane Harvey recovery, the Santa Fe mass shooting, and chemical fires and explosions in the oil and gas industry, with appearances on local and national news.
Prior to FOX 26, Ivory was a reporter and fill-in anchor for the NBC affiliate in Minneapolis for two years. She was a reporter for the NBC affiliate in Lexington, Kentucky for two years prior to that. Ivory’s first full-time TV job was as a reporter for the FOX affiliate in Columbia, South Carolina.
Ivory holds a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.
She got her start as a reporter at CitrusTV at Syracuse. Ivory was chosen for the New York State Broadcasters Association paid internship at WBNG-TV in Binghamton, NY. While still in college, Ivory spent a summer reporting for KBJR-TV in Duluth, MN. She also interned at KABC-TV in Los Angeles and at YNN Syracuse.
Ivory grew up in Wisconsin where she discovered her passion for journalism through high school radio speaking competitions and as a radio announcer at WRLS-FM. In her free time, Ivory enjoys playing guitar, producing songs she’s written, health, and fitness.
Due to the Covid passport requirements we have decided to cancel the meeting for this month as a suitable location has not yet been found (but we’re getting close!).

The program features three excellent speakers who are on the front lines of this battle.
Sharon Hanek, known as “Research Mom”, is past President of the East Pierce Republican Women’s Club and currently serves as First Vice Chair of the Washington Federation of Republican Women. Sharon is the founder of My Family My Choice, a grassroots activist group to promote the rights of families. She believes that citizens getting involved can change our state and is committed to helping others learn to be a strong voice in their community and in politics.
Dawn Land is chair of the 30th Legislative District Republicans. She has been an outspoken advocate for stopping the sexualization of kids in public schools and normalizing transgenderism. She has opposed programs such as drag queens reading to kids in libraries and the availability of books in the Puyallup schools that encourage kids to explore their sexuality at a young age.
Karen Larsen is the current vice chair of the Pierce County Republican Party. In 2014 she co-founded Washington State Against Common Core, which grew to over 3,000 members and became part of a national coalition of parents in every state to fight the implementation of Common Core and the federal strings attached to it. More recently, she helped to found a local organization, My Family My Choice, in response to the many anti-family bills sponsored in 2019 including comprehensive sexuality education and statewide home visitation for all families.
Following remarks by each of the panelists, we’ll have a joint Q&A and discussion focused on what we can each do to make a difference. Join us to hear from these strong women who advocate for our schools and our kids!

This meeting was originally scheduled for April 6 but has been postponed to April 13 due to a positive Covid test for one of the staff at Fairwood Golf & Country Club.
With the relaxing of distancing restrictions, we’ve decided to have our first indoor in-person ERC meeting since the start of the pandemic! We’ll be meeting on Tuesday, April 13, 6:30-8:30PM. They will give us an update on the current legislative session and the extent of the damage already done by the Democratic majority.
We’ll also hear from Kent mayor Dana Ralph, and Jerrod Sessler who is a candidate for Congress in the 4th District.
This will be a great opportunity to look ahead to the 2021 local elections – county, city, school district, fire district, and more – and to meet old friends in person once again.
